I'd say that the best thing I've done is rescue an animal's life... and cared for a stray animal before its death more than it's ever been cared for in it's whole life.  The cat that I have now was rescued from the pound... and I had to have a feeding tube put in so that his life could be saved. Now he is content and spoiled and healthy.
